The Mansion, as seen in the game's opening in the original/Steam version of the game.

The Mansion is the primary setting of the game, and plays a large role during its events. Aya Drevis was born and raised here, and spent most of her time inside the mansion.

Description[]

The interior of the Mansion consists of two floors with many rooms, as well as a backyard. This is where Aya spent most of her time playing, and is also home to the rooms where she, Alfred, Monika, and Maria rest for the night. The mansion also has an extensive basement with three separate floors, and is where Alfred performs his experiments.

Scattered throughout the mansion is a large variety of dolls. This is due to fact that Alfred had transformed various humans into realistic-looking dolls,

History[]

Prior to Mad Father[]

At some point in time, the Drevis family built their mansion in northern Germany, where they led a massive cult in order to obtain "eternal beauty." They would take in poor and homeless people and kill them in a ritual sacrifice in their mad quest. Eventually, Monika's grandfather would become the head of the dying cult, and as he neared the end of his life, he would manage to discover how to turn people into dolls. On his deathbed, he left everything to his granddaughter, Monika, entrusting that she would bring their long-sought ambitions to life.

During her time as head of the household, Monika would have a close encounter with a man named Alfred, who almost killed her, but decided to spare her for reasons unknown. This act causes Monika to fall deeply in love with him, and she would send him letters constantly, asking him to visit her in her mansion. Alfred would eventually concede and visit, during which the two would marry and have their only daughter, Aya. During this time, Alfred would use her grandfather's research to turn people into dolls, while Monika would try to groom Aya into being a worthy successor for her family.

During the events of Mad Father and IF Mode[]

On the eve of the anniversary of Monika's death, she would come back as a ghost and place a curse upon the mansion, which revives all of the test subjects Alfred had killed. Aya would embark on a dangerous quest to rescue her father from the test subjects, during which she would learn to show compassion and empathy to others, as well as learn her father's darkest secrets.

In the game's True Ending - as well as in IF Mode - Robin burns the mansion down to prevent anyone else from using the Drevis family research to hurt more people. Aya, Maria, and Aya's pet rabbit Snowball would watch the mansion blaze for a bit before moving on to live elsewhere.

During the events of Blood Mode[]

Following Alfred's defeat, the remnants of Alfred's lingering will and emotions for his daughter manifests itself as its own being, and recreates the entire mansion in a separate dimension.

Many years later, Aya's soul would be transported here after she took a bite from a odd-colored apple she received from an old woman. In order to escape, she had to confront Alfred's lingering will and make peace with him. Once she does so, her soul returns back to her body while the mansion, along with Alfred's will, fades and disappears.
