- The Mute Subject to Aya
The Mute Subject, also known as the Armless Woman, is one of the subjects of Alfred Drevis that Aya meets while exploring the Basement 2F.
Appearance[]
Mute Subject was a young woman with long wavy black hair, light green eyes and dark circles underneath her eyes, which could be due to lack of sleep. She sports a melancholy expression.
When she is first encountered, as well as during her flashback, she is shown with her arms and hands intact. However, after Aya experiences the Mute Subject's final moments and heads back to where she initially found her, the woman's arms are missing.
History[]
Prior to Mad Father[]
Not much is known of her past, but it can be assumed she was born mute. At some point, she was taken in to live with the Drevis family.
While at the Basement 2F Mortuary, Alfred would approach her with his chainsaw in hand, telling her to stand still so he can claim her "beautiful hands." The young woman could not get away, and quickly perished after her arms were cut off.
During the events of Mad Father[]
Following Monika Drevis coming back as a vengeful ghost and placing a curse upon the mansion, the Mute Subject, among many other test subjects and dolls, come back to life.
She's first encountered at the Basement 1F Stairs to 2F, where she uses her newfound powers to prevent Aya from going any further. Upon discovering her, Aya asks if she's the one preventing her from continuing on, to which the woman nods. Aya begs to be allowed through, as she wants to rescue her father, but when that doesn't work, she asks what must she do in order to pass. In response, the woman begins following right behind Aya.
Upon returning to the Basement 1F Corridor, Aya asks the woman why she's following her, but gets no response. The young girl then asks if the woman would like to leave the mansion so she can return home. The woman nods in response, so Aya promises to take her to the exit if she'll let her continue her quest, to which the woman answers with a nod. As Aya heads to the next room, the woman suddenly vanishes, with Aya unaware of it.
Suddenly, Aya arrives at the Basement 1F Mortuary in the body of the Mute Woman. Confused, Aya finds she can't head back where she came from, so she continues onward.
Before she can enter the next area, Alfred arrives. Aya is happy to see him, but is surprised when she hears him ask her to stay still and give him her "beautiful hands". Aya tries to call out to him, only to discover she can't speak. All she can do is watch in fear as Alfred approaches her before cutting off her arms with his chainsaw.
Aya then wakes up back in the Basement 1F Corridor. Still frightened and confused, she heads back to the Stairs to the 2F, where she spots the Mute Subject lying in a pool of blood, her arms no longer there. Despite the disturbing experience, Aya presses onward.
During the events of Blood Mode[]
The Mute Subject is once again encountered at the Basement 1F Stairs to 2F, where she prevents the much-older Aya from continuing onward.
This time, she keeps herself hidden if Aya stares in her direction. If you examine the space where she's hiding, Aya notes she feels a mysterious presence, and will even poke the invisible woman if you examine it again. Eventually, Aya decides to use her chainsaw on the woman, killing her. Afterwards, if her corpse is examined, Aya apologizes for doing that, though hopes that it at least put the woman's soul at peace.
